Flowers for Algernon Discussion Questions

Question 4:

I like the Charlie with an IQ of 68 better. The Charlie with an IQ of 68 is much kinder although he gets bullied. When he becomes super-smart, no one understands him and he is more lonely than he was when he wasn't as smart. He things he says are incomprehensible and every does not like him and they see him as a "smarty pants".

However i think that he is just misunderstood as the things he understands and the things that he thinks everyone understands is really different from what he thinks. The Charlie with an IQ of 200 can be a little irritating as he says all sorts of things that normal people with an average IQ do not understand. When he sees that you do not understand what he is talking about, he will give you a weird look because he thinks you are supposed to know what he is saying as you have been a normal person all your life and therefore should be able to understand him.

What he doesn't get is that since he underwent the operation to make him clever, he not only became as smart as a normal human being, he became super smart. I pity the Charlie with an IQ of 68 as people take advantage of him because he is not as smart as a normal person. The mentally challenged Charlie is more friendly although he does not understand what people are talking about.

  1. Heya Nicholas! Kudos to you for blogging promptly! It's very unique to create and upload your own comic strips as well. Try supplementing your blog with more reflections on events/current affairs, like meaningful things you noticed on the way home or which you read about in the newspaper (:

  3. Hi Nicholas,
This is Yinn Jaye. I think you should have a tagboard so when I ask you stuff I don't have to leave comments instead. How did you get the newspaper thing? The Ego Man won't tell me.
